Our animation education programme builds pathways into industry for young people across Argyll and the Isles!

This year we are excited to be delivering our Animated Argyll education days in Oban, Mull and Campbeltown.
Young people have been discovering the magic of animation as part of our Animated Argyll programme, supported by Screen Scotland.

The week of creative activity celebrated 50 years of the legendary animation studio Aardman Animations and included screenings of the beloved stop-motion film Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Joining the tour was master model maker Jim Parkyn, who worked on the film and shared behind-the-scenes stories and skills with local students. Screenings took place at Rockfield Centre, Craignure Village Hall, An Tobar in Tobermory and Campbeltown Picture House.
The programme included hands-on workshops in schools across Argyll. Pupils at Rockfield Primary’s Gaelic Medium Unit and in Campbeltown Primary Schools explored local heritage through filmmaking with Mull-based filmmaker Alasdair Satchel, while children in Oban and Mull Primary Schools tried their hand at clay modelling and learned about careers in animation from Jim Parkyn himself.
At Oban and Tobermory High School, older students explored animation techniques including stop motion and pixellation in workshops with Jack Lockhart and Alasdair Satchel, and looked at documentary-making with Nina Pope, gaining a hands-on introduction to the creative possibilities of film and animation.
Screen Argyll’s Animated Argyll programme will bring opportunities to more than 900 young people in Oban, Mull, Campbeltown, Lismore, Coll and Tiree, helping to inspire the next generation of filmmakers and animators.
